Project 3: Light
Architectural Design II-ARC257
We have been selected to design a proposed non-denominational chapel located on the campus of Farmingdale State College. The College wants this to be a profoundly spiritual place that people of all faiths can worship and reflect on life’s events. The College believes this can be achieved by the creative use of light. The College explicitly requests the design not be symmetrical.

Light Background Research

I used the St Ignatius Church as a precedent for the windows that have with the vertical pieces to block light from coming straight in. They give the effect that they are floating because of how they are attached to the walls.

I also used the Natre Dame Du Haut as a precedent for my roof. I replicated how the roof comes up and to a point in the front.

I used the Riola Parish Church as a precedent for my structure, making them look like sperate pieces from the buildings. I also used this building for the hanging "walls" from the ceiling that redirects the light.
